The BIOMARC, situated in the Cabo Delgado Province in Northern Mozambique, is part of the biological monitoring subcomponent of the Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Management Project, implemented by the Government of Mozambique since 2001.

The centre is intended to enable research activities, facilitate monitoring activities and cater for the research needs of the coastal provinces of Mozambique, as well as providing a base for transfrontier research with Tanzania.
